Workstation Assessment Guide

Workstation Assessment Guide

Applies to: all Support Services team

Workstation Assessments

1. Workstation Assessments for new starters
  • On starting, new team members should be provided with information about how to set up their desk in the most appropriate way (see attached)
  • They can also be guided to the following web resource, which contains information on setting up your workstation, amongst other helpful information
    • Click on "office" option
    • In second section (Learning - work in comfort) click on "setting up your workstation"
    • This will take you through a self-guided assessment
  • We would encourage the new team member to have a discussion with their manager if they feel that they need additional/alternative equipment.
  • Costs of new chairs, keyboards, mice etc. come out of individual departmental budgets

2. Workstation assessment for team members experiencing pain/discomfort which they feel may be related to their computer workstation setup
  • For these situations, we encourage team members to discuss the situation with their direct manager in the first instance
  • The attached "early report of pain/discomfort" can  be used as a guide to determine how severe the pain/discomfort is, and consider what may be contributing to it (this form is intended to be used as a basis for discussion with direct manager, and is an ACC form, generic in nature)
  • The above mentioned "safe workstation set up tips" and link to habit at work website can be provided again for the team member to work through
  • If there is a need for additional support, or a formal workstation assessment, we recommend contacting an Occupational Therapist. Please contact Group H & S team for advice on who to contact.
  • The H & S Team can be contacted for advice, guidance and direction
  • Please note that if the team member experiencing pain/discomfort in relation to an existing work injury claim (being managed by Gallagher Bassett) or non-work injury claim (being managed by ACC or Gallagher Bassett), the relevant case manager should be contaced to discuss the need for workstation assessment first
